June is Cataract Awareness Month!
Did you know that there is an estimated 20.5 million Americans aged 40 years and older who have a cataract in one or both eyes. It’s crucial to highlight that cataracts remain the primary cause of blindness worldwide. This dedicated month aims to raise awareness about cataract symptoms, types, and treatment options. It’s important to inform your patients of the steps they can take to prevent this issue, like wearing UV-blocking sunglasses. Learn more at preventblindness.org.
Eschenbach carries a wide range of absorptive filters, like our Ambelis® line, that provide contrast enhancement and glare reduction. Reach out to your Territory Manager for a demonstration and see the range of tints that they come in.
National Sunglasses Day is on June 27th!
This is a commemorative day that reminds us of the importance of wearing UV protective sunwear and practicing UV safety all year long. Learn more about this special day and get your reference materials which you can use to inform your patients about the effects UV light can have on their vision at thevisioncouncilfoundation.org.
We’re Sending Two Visually Impaired Students to Space Camp!
Eschenbach is proud to sponsor this exciting event for two visually impaired students (grades 7–12) to attend the Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCIVIS). From September 28th to October 2nd, 2025 two lucky students will be able to take part in a one-of-a-kind educational experience: an astronaut training program adapted to fit to their particular abilities. The program uses NASA-adapted equipment and introduces students to some exciting career paths in aerospace.
Learn more at www.scivis.org. Students can apply through July 15, 2025.

Don’t overlook lighting as a tool to help your patients.
Virtually all “sight robbing” pathologies and most congenital eye conditions result in some loss of contrast sensitivity along with acuity loss. By improving contrast appreciation, we can often help improve functional visual skills. One of the important ways to improve contrast appreciation is with lighting. There are studies that show many of our low vision patients benefit much more from improved lighting than our normally sighted patients.
A good low vision light source allows the user to adjust both the intensity (brightness) of the light as well as the color temperature. In our clinic, we’ve noted that each patient’s adjustments of these variables are unique and not necessarily related to their eye condition. A real benefit is the ability to change brightness and color temperature on reading material printed with various colors or inks and papers.
Eschenbach carries several lamps that offer the ability to adjust both brightness and color temperature such as the Elumentis LED.
