July is National UV Safety Awareness Month!
Studies indicate that prolonged exposure to bright sunlight can heighten the risk of conditions like cataracts, ocular melanoma, and macular degeneration. As we enter into UV Safety Month this July, it’s important to remind your patients about safeguarding their eyes from the sun’s harmful rays with 100% UV-blocking glasses.
Whether your patients are enjoying outdoor excursions or just doing errands in town, Eschenbach offers UV-blocking eyewear options that are designed to shield their eyes. Our Asensys® eyewear are an excellent choice for those with light sensitivity. They provide 100% UV protection and the shield coverage above the eyes and side shields on the temples maximize the amount of protection. Plus, the are prescription correctable.

From Exotic to Mainstream
When I started my career, video magnifiers were considered very exotic and were reserved for only the most profoundly impaired patients. The only design available was the big, bulky desktop models. They had few features and, relatively speaking, were expensive. In 1985 the first demo model we had in my clinic cost about $3,000. To put this in perspective, a new Chevrolet Camaro MSRP was about $7,000.
Today’s video magnifiers offer so much more to our patients than ever before. We now have an incredibly wide range of sizes and options for our patients. A desk top model like Eschenbach’s Vario Digital 22 FHD is lightweight, foldable, and can easily be moved from place to place. Images are much better today, and controls are much more user-friendly. Mid-sized video magnifiers like the Visolux HD and XL series give me a tool that can be thrown in a book bag by a student or used in virtually any location by my seniors. For magnification on the move, I’ve found the small Smartlux® Digital is a great tool for many of my patients on the go. Most of us feel lost if we don’t have our smartphones. Optaro® provides my patients with a very versatile device that turns an iPhone into a powerful video reading device.
With so many options, video magnification is certainly not exotic anymore and is often the best solution to help your patients achieve their goals!
