Doctor Teresa with Man

There are over 32 million people in North America that have vision loss due to macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other eye diseases, and the number continues to grow every day. Although for some patients who have these eye diseases certain drug or surgical treatments can help, oftentimes they are not enough to allow patients to regain the ability to perform daily living tasks and hobbies--from reading the newspaper to doing crossword puzzles to watching television.

Fortunately, low vision care is an effective service that allows eyecare professionals to help their visually impaired patients accomplish tasks like these! in fact, low vision care has been so effective that it is now a Standard of Care as per the American Academy of Ophthalmology--a service to be offered to those with an acuity of 20/50 or worse or those with contrast or field loss. Watch the AAO video here!

Low vision care is a service that complements any medical treatment patients are receiving for their underlying eye pathology or condition that is causing the vision loss and creates a more complete treatment plan that maximizes the outcome for the patient. It's also a service that benefits eye care professionals by providing a positive financial impact on their practice. Learn more about the opportunity to offer low vision care from a leading low vision optometrist HERE!
